Dr. Joe O Connell facilitates a conversation with Mary Nihill, Director of the Centre for School Leadership, and Tomás Ó Ruairc, Director of the Teaching Council. This conversation is centred around the congruence between the Teaching Council's Cosán framework and the Centre for School Leadership's 'Learning to be a School Leader in Ireland' continuum.

Clive Byrne and Mary Nihill 

Clive Byrne Director of the NAPD facilitates a conversation with Mary Nihill, Director of the Centre for School Leadership. Clive started teaching in Mount Temple Comprehensive School and became principal of Presentation Brothers College Glasthule in 1994. He took on the principalship of St. Mary's College Rathmines in 1997 before taking on the role of Director of NAPD in 2008. Clive was also president of ESHA –the European School Heads Association. Clive also served two terms on the NCCA.

Ms Aine Lynch is the current CEO of the National Parents’ Council Primary. In conversation with Anna Mai Rooney from the Centre for School Leadership, the main areas discussed are the developments in parental engagement over Aine’s time as CEO and the barriers that she has encountered and that still need to be addressed in relation to how parents can positively influence their child’s education. The conversation also addresses the Student Parent Charter and Aine’s vision for how it will influence education policy in the future.

Dr Finn Ó Murchú and Mary Nihill 

This is a conversation with Dr. Finn Ó Murchú, Head of School at MIC Thurles and Director of the CSL-endorsed Postgrad Masters in Middle Leadership and Mentoring. The focus of the conversation is Middle Leadership development in schools and at system level. Finn speaks about his experience of working with middle leaders and the potential that the development of this leadership role has to enhance teaching and learning for all students.

Professor Patricia Mannix-McNamara and Anna Mai Rooney

This is a conversation with Professor Patricia Mannix-McNamara Head of the School of Education in the University of Limerick and Anna Mai Rooney Deputy Director of the CSL. Patricia began her career as a post primary school teacher before completing her PhD in the examination of supervisory relationships from a critical theory perspective. Patricia teaches courses on leadership, teacher professionalism, research methods in Ireland and abroad at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

This is a conversation with Pairic Clerkin, CEO of the Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN), seconded from St. Patrick’s National School, Diswellstown, Castleknock, Dublin 15 and Brian O’ Doherty, President of IPPN (2021-2023), seconded from St. Patrick’s Loreto Primary School, Bray.  The conversation is facilitated by Anna Mai Rooney Deputy Director Primary of the Centre for School Leadership (CSL).  

The conversation focuses on leadership developments and challenges since the COVID-19 pandemic, support of those aspiring to principalship, remaining optimistic for the future and the importance of sustainable leadership through the lens of IPPN’s Sustainable Leadership Project.

Dr. Joseph Moynihan Director of the Educational Leadership Post-Graduate Programme, UCC and Mary Nihill

This is a conversation with Dr Joseph A.Moynihan. Joe is a full-time member of staff in the School of Education in University College Cork, Ireland and the Director of the Educational Leadership Post-Graduate Programme. Joe is also a lecturer in Initial Teacher Education on the Professional Master of Education (PME) programme and writes and delivers modules on the Masters in Education (MEd). Joe graduated from a two year MSc in Personal & Management Coaching at UCC in April 2022.His research interests are in educational leadership, coaching, socio-cultural learning, collaborative practice, work-based learning, and education in general.
